Oh no! A void in my pen blank. The blank is almost down to size when a huge void appeared. Is the project now scrap? Can it be fixed? It’s a feature of working with natural materials.
The project is a Faith, Hope and Love pen made with genuine Bethlehem Olive Wood. When I discovered the void, my first question was “Did I cause the problem?” A closer inspection revealed that the void was not created by a tool. A natural void in the wood. If it was a small blemish, I could pass it off as a feature. This crater is ugly and conspicuous! I have additional olive wood available.Filling the hole was be difficult at best but probably would not work at all.

The solution? Fill it with epoxy! After a little repair work and sanding, it didn’t look too bad. It looked like a knot. What will it look like after finishing? You decide!
